Coastal Fountain Fund Success

We are delighted to announce that we have been successful in a funding bid to Sea Changes Coastal Fountain fund and have secured a donation of  £2500 towards the purchase of a water bottle refill station to be located on the Promenade.

We are working up the project scheme with a local contractor which will require connection to water mains as well as drainage, the system will also require planning permission as it will sit within the conservation area but we are hopeful to be able to put this in place during the summer months.

The purpose of the Sea Changes Coastal Fountain Fund is to reduce the impact of single-use plastic water bottles on coastal habitats by funding communities to purchase water drinking fountains and install them for use by the public in busy or environmentally important areas.

It is proposed to install the unit on the Promenade between Cafe Bertorelli and The Coble – this is also near the finish line for Newbiggin by the Sea Parkrun and we are sure it will be a welcome addition for the Parkrunners.

Cllr Alison Sutherland commented, ‘this will be an excellent new facility for residents and visitors of Newbiggin by the Sea and we look forward to progressing towards installation in the summer months‘.
