E-Bike & E-Scooter Safety Alert

E-bikes and e-scooters are becoming more popular, and greener, ways to get around. But did you know the lithium-ion batteries that power them can pose a serious fire risk if not used or charged properly?

Common fire risks include:
⚠️ Damaged or poor-quality batteries
⚠️ Using the wrong charger
⚠️ DIY conversion kits
⚠️ Overcharging or unsafe storage

Stay safe by following these tips:
✅ Buy from trusted retailers
✅ Only use the battery & charger supplied
✅ Avoid DIY conversion kits
✅ Don’t charge overnight or in extreme temps
✅ Store batteries in a cool, dry place
✅ Regularly check for signs of damage

Remember: Privately owned e-scooters are illegal on public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes (except approved trial zones).

If you have any questions about battery safety, contact Northumberland Fire and Rescue, or visit https://www.northumberlandfireandrescue.gov.uk/lithium…

Stay alert, stay safe, and enjoy the ride responsibly!
