Donation to Wansbeck Christmas Campaign

At a meeting of the Finance & HR Committee held 15th November, the members considered a grant request from Wansbeck Christmas Campaign.  Members unanimously agreed to support the request with a donation of £500 from the Community Resilience Fund.

Wansbeck Christmas Campaign is a constituted group who fundraise in order to collect and buy presents for families who struggle at Christmas across the Wansbeck Constituency. They work with Social Services, schools, and health visitors in order to identify families in need. We also offer a self-referral system for families who feel they need help,

Vicky Oakley, the Treasurer of Wansbeck Christmas Campaign popped over to Newbiggin this morning for a presentation photo with Cllr Alison Sutherland, Mayor of Newbiggin by the Sea. Vicky provided an update on the campaign progress. Last year they gave presents to over 600 children across Wansbeck of which 114 were from Newbiggin.  In 2023 the need has been greater 804 children in total of which 122 were from Newbiggin, all presents have now been delivered to households to wrap for the children.

Cllr Sutherland said ‘It’s wonderful that so many give their time to organise campaigns like this to ensure that no child goes without. Thank you to Wansbeck Christmas Campaign and to everyone that has donated so generously.  I hope every child in Newbiggin by the Sea has a Merry Christmas’.
