Removal of Town Christmas Tree

We are sorry to say that due to a massive split in the trunk of the Town Christmas Tree (that runs up the trunk), the Town Christmas Tree will be removed as a matter of health and safety.
We have considered options such as splinting the trunk but the split is too severe and this would be too risky.
We are currently making urgent arrangements for the safe removal of the lights following which the tree will be laid flat and chipped.
The removal of the tree lights will mean a temporary blackout of the other Christmas lights at the band stand area. Northumberland County Council streetlighting team will work to reilluminate as soon as possible.
All at the Town Council are very disappointed by this and we understand that many residents will be too however we hope you all understand that this is in the interests of public safety, and that is paramount.
