Christmas Present Appeal Launched

The Salvation Army has launched its annual Christmas Present Appeal in the Ashington and Newbiggin by the Sea area to ensure more than 200 children receive presents on Christmas Day.

Last year Ashington and Newbiggin by the Sea Salvation Army, helped more than 200 children who had been referred to it by social workers and partner agencies working in the area.

Major Mark Dooley, from Ashington Salvation Army, said ‘We want to make sure that any child who would otherwise go without had the joy of opening a gift this Christmas. It is not just the gift that makes a difference but also knowing that someone cares about them at this time. We expect that the demand this year will be as great, if not greater and anything people can do to help bring a smile to these children’s faces would be very much appreciated.

The Salvation Army will welcome any gift, whether large or small. However, please note toys should be brand-new so the children felt ‘extra special’ as well as being unwrapped.

Toys can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Charity Shop in Ashington, which can be found at 22 Station Road on the one way section.
