On 3rd April we hosted an extremely successful conference looking at older people's issues. We were delighted to be joined by almost 80 delegates, 13 stands and guest speakers: Jane Bowie (Associate Director, Northumberland Care Trust), Tom Roll (Wansbeck Golden Age Forum), Catrina Flynn (Age UK Northumberland), Lynn McIntosh (Newbiggin Nipper), Carol O’Connall (Weekday Clubs) and Josie Armstrong (Friendly Faces at St Bartholomew’s Church Centre).
This Conference was aimed at anyone involved in delivering care or services for older people. It gave delegates the opportunity to find out more about provision in Newbiggin by the Sea, and to meet new people who may share common goals, interests and ambitions. It enabled delegates to voice their opinions about what is important to them, with the potential of this affecting policies, aims and targets, and steering future investment and decision making. This Conference also provided delegates with an opportunity to socialise and form new networks, as well as participating in optional bingo and raffle!
The event was free and funded by Newbiggin Town Council. We were all impressed by the wealth of activities already going on within the local area, and realised that communication and advertising were the areas that most needed improvement.

Following the success of this event, we are looking to follow it up with a smaller get together in October 2012. More details to follow soon.
