The Jayess Newbiggin Brass Band is applied for financial help over the Christmas period to help ensure the future of the band.  After a difficult period during the pandemic, they were delighted to be back playing together again. They were able to enjoy their first engagement in October and were hoping to do more over the Christmas period. Unfortunately, due to a change in current government measures they have been unable to secure their usual carolling slots at local supermarkets. They were therefore are asking for donations to help towards the running of the band.

Any financial help would be spent on any costs that relate to the running of the band, including the purchase of new instruments, the upkeep and maintenance of  current instruments, and the acquisition of new music. They also hopeful to find a new home within Newbiggin-by-the-Sea so they can finally be based within our wonderful community. Monetary donations will also help the band to secure a new home and pay for any relevant costs for the hire of a venue.

Kayleigh Griffiths, band member commented that, ‘throughout the pandemic nothing has brought people together more than music. Without the arts our lives would be that little quieter and for many of us music is the heart and soul of our lives, it’s what makes us human and it’s what unites our wonderful community‘.

The band performed for two hours at the bandstand on Saturday 18th December, spreading a little Christmas cheer, and were a fine example of the proud brass banding culture in Northumberland.

Cllr Spratt said, ‘it was wonderful to hear the band perform at the Christmas Carol service, which was attended by many residents and visitors of all ages, they certainly boosted the Christmas spirit in Newbiggin by the Sea.  We are delighted to support the band and help safeguard their future; they are a real asset to our community.’
