Reverse Advent Calendar

Recently the Town Council donated our annual contribution of £1000 to Wansbeck Valley Foodbank.   Peter Robertson, Trustee of Wansbeck Valley Foodbank commented ‘The last 20 months have been our busiest ever and because donations of food inevitably reduced due to lockdowns we have been forced to purchase far more food than previously so the donation will be important in helping us continue to support those people in food poverty in Newbiggin’.

The Town Council also support the Foodbank by taking part in the Biggin Box campaign, with the donation box placed outside our door during the working day.

In the run up to Christmas, a popular and fun way of donating to the Foodbank is through a Reverse Advent Calendar – collecting donations throughout the month of November so that donations can be distributed to families in need in time for Christmas. The below image highlights suggested donations per day.

The Town Council Office will act as a collection point for Reverse Advent Calendars for any residents who are unable to travel to the Foodbank between the 1st and 7th December.

Cllr Jill Woodman, Deputy Mayor commented, ‘The Biggin Box initiative, set up by a resident has been a great success due to the generosity and kindness of our community, always willing to step in and help others. The work Wansbeck Food Bank does is greatly appreciated by those who are sadly struggling and in need of support, so on behalf of the residents they I have helped I thank them.’
