Newbiggin by the Sea Town Council are moving forward with the development of the Newbiggin Neighbourhood Plan, an important step for us as we define the future direction for our town.

The Neighbourhood Plan is being led by the Town Council, as the qualifying body, and the Plan Steering Group which consists of representatives from local organisations, land owners and our County Councillors.

To support this initiative we have recently appointed Jo-Anne Garrick Ltd as Planning Consultant. Jo-Anne has significant experience in a variety of senior planning roles in a range of public sector organisations and more recently in the private sector having undertaken a number of commissions providing Neighbourhood Planning support across the County.

Commenting on her appointment Jo-Anne said ‘I am looking forward to working with the town council and local community to create a plan, with planning policies, which fully reflect the distinctiveness of the town’.

Town Council Chairman Alan Thompson commented, ‘we are delighted to have Jo-Anne on board as we move forward with the neighbourhood planning process, her knowledge and experience will be invaluable‘.

Newbiggin by the Sea Council have recently been successful in obtaining initial grant funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government towards the preparation of the Neighbourhood Plan to the amount of £3,600; further funding applications will be submitted as the plan progresses.

The Newbiggin Neighbourhood Plan is an exciting opportunity for our local community to influence the planning of the area in which they live and work.

It can be used to:

  • Develop a shared vision for your neighbourhood.
  • Choose where new homes, shops, offices and other development should be built.
  • Identify and protect important local green spaces.
  • Influence what new buildings should look like.
