Congratulations to the 476 that ran, jogged or walked for a special Newbiggin by the Sea Parkrun; the first leg of the New Years day double Parkrun with Druridge Bay, toppling the previous record of 349 runners which was set last New Year.

Jacqueline Prouse, Run Director and Organiser, commented ‘It was great to see all the colours of the folks running on the Prom. 476 runners and the 27 volunteers who gave up their time on New Years morning to make it all possible. The volunteers were fantastic, their help is invaluable and keeps the event going’.

Newbiggin by the Sea Parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9am. The course starts near the Maritime Centre and heads along the whole length of the Promenade, followed by a clockwise loop around Milburn Park (old tennis courts). You then run back along the Promenade and turn just before the Sailing Club to start the second lap. At the end of the second lap the course finishes on the Promenade near Bertorelli’s Caffe. It’s free to join whether you wish to run, jog or walk the route but you must register in advance in order to get a time for your 5km. More details are available at the Park Run website.
